How to update the firmware of my Linksys EA8300?

Linksys firmware updates help you fix the bug and it will enhancements the functionality for your EA8300 router. It is important to keep the firmware of your Linksys device updated because it fixes issues that you may encounter while you are using your EA8300.

To update the firmware of Linksys router type “www.linksyssmartwifi.com”.

You can download the updated firmware from the Linksys Support site may also contain device feature enhancements that are not available in the previous versions.

Steps which follow to keep your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers' firmware updated:

  1. By using the Check for Updates button
  2. To Enable Automatic Update option
  3. Manual firmware update

 By using the Check for Updates button

  • Log in to your “linksyssmartwifi.com”. Once the web interface opens, click Connectivity

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi web interface of your router can be accessed through the local access link on the Login page.

The steps below will guide you on how to access the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router settings without creating Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account and signing in.

  • Launch a web browser.
  • In the Address bar, enter your router’s IP Address or “192.168.1.1” then press enter.

 NOTE: The default IP Address of the router is 192.168.1.1. If you changed it, enter the new IP Address instead.

 RECOMMENDATION: If a Bad Gateway Error occurs when accessing a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router,

  • When the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account login appears, click the local access link below the Sign In section.
  • Enter your Router Password in the space provided and click Sign In.

 NOTE: The default password is admin. If you changed it, enter the new password instead.

  • Wait until it redirects you to the user interface of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router.

 NOTE: It displays The Device List as the Network Map Tool on some Linksys Smart WiFi Routers. It displays the External Storage as USB Storage among Linksys Smart WiFi Routers with an older firmware version.

 You can change or personalize your router and network settings.

  • Under the Firmware Update section under the Basic tab, click Check for Updates.
  • It will try to connect with the Linksys server to detect a firmware update from where you can download and install the firmware on your device. Select the Click here link to upgrade.

 NOTE: If the no updates found it displays the message, it means that your router has the latest firmware version.

  • Click the Update firmware box and click yes.
  • Your router will start updating the firmware.

IMPORTANT: During the update process, do not power OFF the router or close the browser window to avoid corrupting the firmware of your router.

RECOMMENDATION: In case you see a prompt to try again later, the server may be slow or not available for the moment. Try to upgrade the router again at a later time to resolve the issue.

  • A Router Reboot screen will pop up. Click Ok to continue.

 NOTE: The router reboot process usually takes a few minutes.

  • Once the firmware upgrade is complete, click Ok on the Firmware update complete screen.

 To enable Automatic update

NOTE: If you don’t have a Linksys cloud account, access the router's web-based setup page by opening a web browser and entering "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar and press enter.

  • Under the Firmware Update, you can see the check-mark box to enable the Automatic firmware update option. Once it's done, click Apply and it will save the changes.

 NOTE: On the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, the automatic firmware update feature disable by default. 

  • When it is online, your router will detect the new firmware that is available to update for you to apply on your device.
  • On the Update firmware box, click yes.
  • Your router will start updating the firmware.

 IMPORTANT: During performing this task, make sure you do not power OFF the router or close the browser window to avoid corrupting the firmware of your router. 

  • A Router Reboot screen will pop up. Click Ok to continue.
  • Wait while the router reboots. This usually takes a few minutes.
  • Once the firmware upgrade is complete, click Ok on the Firmware update complete screen.
  • You should now have updated firmware on your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router

RECOMMENDATION: For information regarding updated drivers for a particular operating system, you can study the Release Notes found in the Downloads tab of your Linksys device's product page.

Manually upgrading the router’s firmware

  • Download the latest firmware of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router and save it on your computer.

IMPORTANT: It is important to unzip the downloaded file for the router’s firmware to update the Linksys because it is available in a .zip file.

NOTE: The name of the file may vary depending on the firmware file of your device.

  • Log in to your “www.linksyssmartwifi.com”. 
  • Click on Connectivity.
  • In the Firmware Update section, under the Basic tab, click the Choose file button.
  • Select the file you downloaded and click Open.
  • Click the Start button.
  • On the Update firmware box, click yes. Your router will start updating the firmware.

NOTE: While the firmware update, do NOT turn OFF your router or close the browser window.

  • A Router Reboot screen will pop up. Click Ok to continue.

 NOTE: The router reboot process usually takes a few minutes.

  • On the Firmware update complete screen, click Ok.
  • Your router's firmware should now update.

 Turning OFF Auto-Updates​

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers also have an Auto Firmware Update feature which automatically updates the router whenever there is a new firmware available. But if you want to prevent your router from receiving automatic firmware updates, you will need to turn OFF the Automatic Firmware Update feature. Follow the steps below:

NOTE: If you don’t have a Linksys cloud account, access the router's web-based setup page by opening a web browser and enter "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar and press Enter. 

  • On the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account page, click the Connectivity.
  • You can see the Basic tab, uncheck the box beside Automatic under Firmware Update then click Ok.

 NOTE: To turn ON automatic firmware updates again, check the box beside Automatic and click Ok.
